This apple tea BBQ sauce is not too sweet, not too spicy. To serve, bring back up to temperature and serve on the side or small amount over smoked ribs.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup frozen apple juice concentrate
  • ⅓ cup cooked crumbled bacon, ground in spice grinder
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • ½ cup grated onion
  • ½ cup black tea leaves

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Combine ketchup, vinegar, apple juice concentrate, bacon, soy sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, paprika, lemon pepper, and bay leaves together in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Stir onion and tea leaves into ketchup mixture, reduce heat, and simmer, stirring often, until sauce is slightly thickened, 10 to 15 minutes. Strain sauce and cool.
