This is my go-to marinade anytime we are grilling chicken. I usually make kabobs and just marinate the chicken cubes in this mixture for a few hours.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower seed oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Combine fish sauce, sesame oil, sunflower seed oil, lemon juice, Chinese five-spice powder, and salt in a container and mix well.

You can use 3 thinly sliced lemongrass leaves instead of the lemon juice.


  1. Haven t tried it BUT already love that it uses fish sauce instead of soy sauce (one kid has a soy intolerance) and No Sugars! My kids hate savory with sweet (think any barbecue sauce). Just looking at ingredients... I m thinking this will work for us.
