Servings 1 mug cake Calories 450.5

This is the culmination of hundreds of mug cake attempts… what I have personally found to have the perfect amount of sweetness and texture while still remaining low calorie. Unlike most mug cake recipes, it’s not gummy. It’s vegan and oil free!

Recipe Ingredients

  • ¼ cup whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ⅓ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon water, or more as needed
  • 2 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon vegan chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Whisk whole wheat flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a mug. Mix in applesauce, 1 tablespoon water, vinegar, and vanilla extract. Add more water if needed to reach a cake batter consistency. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  2. 2 Microwave on high for 1 minutes and 30 seconds. Add 30 seconds if top doesn't appear set.
