Without a doubt, this is the best pie in my arsenal of recipes. It is a pear-filled pie topped with a crumble of brown sugar and Cheddar cheese.

Recipe Ingredients

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 6 cups peeled and sliced pears
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • unbaked pie crust

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. 2 Combine the flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and Cheddar cheese. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. 3 Toss the sliced pears with the lemon juice. Combine the 1/2 cup brown sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon in a separate bowl. Add the sugar mixture to the pears and toss to coat.
  4. 4 Transfer the pears to the pie crust and top with the crumble mixture. Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown, about 45 minutes.

  1. In france they have cheese after the meal and then dessert. this is like the combined two if you didnt think you had space for the both. really awesome and made it with Roblochon instead of cheddar which is the special cheese of the area. i also didnt have a pie crust or any cornstarch - Read more ...
  2. No good at all the first day. Very weird to mix a mild pear flavor with a strong cheese flavor. It was much better the second and third day. Still not enough to make it again.
  3. Awesome recipe!!! I was stuck in the same 'ol rut and wanted something new and different. Family was balking when they heard I was making a Cheddar-Pear Pie, But everyone LOVED IT!!!!
  4. So good, have made twice. One time I used fresh pears the other time canned (fresh was better but canned still tasted dang good). I used one full cup os sharp cheese and I didnt have cornstarch so I used flour. 1 tblsp of cornstarch= 2 tblsp of flour
  5. Very good but I'd like it better with sharp cheddar cheese. Family loves this recipe!
  6. YUMMY! Made it exact and loved it! Used sharp cheddar but you really don't taste the cheese - will probably use a little more next time. Thank you!
  7. This was amazing. I made it with combination of two types of pears and some granny smith apples. Next time I might even make it as a crumble/crisp because the crust was not even needed!
  8. I've been meaning to write my review for a few weeks now...after having made this pie 3 times already this Fall. I wasn't too sure about the Cheddar cheese but was it ever the best! The topping is just sweet enough to offset the pear filling. We had so many left-over pears and this was - Read more ...
  9. Amazingly good! Very caramel-ly! I was lazy and didn't want to bother with a pie crust, so just made it as a crisp. I even left the peels on. I will make this again and again (a good way to use up too many ripe pears).
  10. Delicious My son-in-law tried to eat it all
