This dish made good use of my leftovers. Some chicken, ham, noodles and cheese, and you’ve got dinner. Try adding whatever leftovers you may have in your fridge.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup cooked, cubed chicken breast meat
  • ½ cup cooked and cubed ham
  • ½ cup cooked wide egg noodles
  • ¼ cup chopped celery
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. 2 Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Stir in the flour and heat until bubbly. Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened and smooth.
  3. 3 Remove from heat and stir in the chicken, ham, noodles, celery, salt and ground black pepper. Transfer this mixture to a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  4. 4 Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, sprinkle with the cheese and top with paprika, as desired. Return to oven and bake for 5 to 10 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly.

  1. It was okay...I added fresh mushrooms and a can of cream of chicken soup still a little bland for my taste. probably will make again and try some different ingredients and more spice.
  2. I enjoyedthis very much. But being me I can never leave anything alone. I added a 1/2 tsp. dry mustard powder and 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper to the sauce and mixed cheese with bread crumbs in my food processor with another 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper. That takes care of bland very nicley.
  3. Took the advice from other reviewers and doubled up on this yummy recipe plus added a can of "healthy" cream of mushroom soup. Didn't use the celery but used green pepper and asparagus. Some garlic and onion powder added to the flavor. Once assembled I shredded cheddar cheese on top and sprinkled with bread crumbs - Read more ...
  4. Followed recipe except cooked a little more noodles. Threw in one half a small can of mushrooms I had left over left out the water as recommended and added the can of creme of mushroom soup! My husband raved about it and he does not usually go for "leftovers". Definately a keeper!!
  5. This was a great way to use leftovers. I thought the portions were rather small. I added peas and mushrooms to the mix increased the amount of meat made an additional cup of white sauce and made more noodles.
