These easy wings make a great meal when paired with rice and a veggie, or as part of a picnic with potato salad and baked beans.

Recipe Ingredients

  • ½ cup kosher salt
  • 1 liter cola-flavored carbonated beverage
  • 4 pounds chicken wings
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons ground mustard
  • 4 teaspoons paprika

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Pour 1/2 cup kosher salt and the cola into a resealable plastic bag, mix until the salt dissolves. Add the chicken wings, coat with the brine, squeeze out excess air, and seal the bag. Brine in the refrigerator for 2 hours. While the chicken is brining, stir together the vegetable oil, brown sugar, 2 tablespoons kosher salt, garlic powder, black pepper, mustard powder, and paprika in a small bowl to form a paste; set aside.
  2. 2 Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate.
  3. 3 Drain the chicken wings in a colander set in the sink, then pat dry with paper towels. Place the wings into a large mixing bowl, then mix in the spice paste until evenly coated.
  4. 4 Grill the wings on the preheated grill, turning occasionally, until the chicken is no longer pink at the bone, 10 to 15 minutes.

Chef's Notes

  1. I only added 1tbs of salt to the chicken and coke which I thought was perfect. I didn't pat the chicken dry after darining out the coke cause I didn't see it making a difference. The chicken came out great kind of like bourbon chicken.
  2. Made these a couple times since I got the recipe.Like these very much and they're easy.
  3. This was very delicious. I liked the rub a lot. I used a Slovenian soda called Cockta which is a citrusy cola. You can get it at specialty liquor stores.
  4. Theses were the best! If you like kfc fire grilled wings,Well theses are even better! The only thing I did different was to cut salt in 1/2 and used season salt in the rub, cut that amount in 1/2 as well, Made theses last night, and are having them again tonight! with fresh sweet corn - Read more ...
  5. We really liked this recipe! It had too much salt in it the first time I made it so I cut wayyyyy back on the salt and the family loved it the second time! I probably only used a couple of tablespoons in the brine mixture and then didn't use as much in the coating. - Read more ...
  6. OH MY GOSH!!!I NEVER ATE FASTER!!!This recipe tasted like it should be part of wing stop!!!My husband and I LOVED IT!!!!!
  7. I thought it was an interesting idea so I tried this weekend. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Not really any flavor other than some sweetness which is not our favorite flavor for wings. Sorry but I will not try this recipe again.
  8. I made these last weekend for my birthday party and everyone loved them. Everyone asked for the recipe. I am going to try this on chicken breast this week.
  9. I brined the wings overnight and the wings were a little salty. Two hours is probably right. Added the juice of one lime to the coating mix for a little zing. Baked them for about 45 minutes at 425 degrees, turned the wings after 20 minutes.
