This healthier version of sloppy joes includes more veggies and real garlic. Be sure to serve on whole wheat buns!
Recipe Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- ¼ cup chopped onion
- ¼ cup chopped green bell pepper
- 2 carrots, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
Cooking Directions
- 1 Heat skillet over medium-high heat; cook and stir beef, onion, green bell pepper, carrots, and garlic until beef is browned, about 10 minutes. Drain off liquids.
- 2 Stir in mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar and mix thoroughly. Reduce heat to low and simmer until sauce has thickened, about 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
