I needed a meatloaf recipe that contained no tomatoes or tomato sauce. I created this recipe using a hint of hot sauce to avoid blandness. Serve with mashed potatoes and veggies.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 cup diced green bell pepper
  • ¾ cup Italian-style bread crumbs
  • ¼ cup hot pepper sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 (.75 ounce) packet dry brown gravy mix

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. 2 Mix onion, bell pepper, bread crumbs, hot pepper sauce, egg, salt, and pepper together in a large bowl. Add ground beef; mix.
  3. 3 Press beef mixture into a loaf pan. Sprinkle brown gravy mix over meat.
  4. 4 Bake in preheated oven until cooked through and browned, 1 hour. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

  4. This was an excellent recipe...I didn't change a thing. I will definitely make it again.
  5. Made some moderations (onion powder instead of diced onion omitted bell peppers & hot sauce). Let folks add their own hot sauce to their taste.
  6. Left out the green peppers and hot sauce! Put in some meatloaf seasoning as well! Added some BBQ on top:) Wonderful! I will be making this again!
  7. Thank you for this delicious recipe. the way I made meatloaf with tomato sauce had started to give me heartburn so I stopped making it. Now we can have it regularly again. this was quite tasty and I didn't change anything.
  8. This was tasty. I usually make Italian meatloaf so this was a nice change. I didn't have a gravy packet so I made a quick brown gravy. Also I found out that I was out of bread crumbs so just made my own and seasoned with garlic onion cayenne and salt.
  9. This is how I've always made meatloaf minus the gravy packet and hot sauce which I'm going to try next time.
