Servings 1 mug cake Calories 664.4

Created this in a dorm room when all the mug cake recipes I found were terrible. It’s super easy to make and to memorize, and if you only use one mug, a tablespoon measure, and a spoon, you have a lot fewer dishes to do. Easy to make in under 5 minutes with minimal mess, so enjoy! And never feel bad about eating the entire thing yourself.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons chocolate chips, or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • salt
  • 1 pinch baking soda
  • 1 splash vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Microwave chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe mug until melted, about 20 seconds. Add brown sugar, white sugar, salt, baking soda, and vanilla extract; mix together until combined. Stir in egg yolk. Add flour; mix until batter is blended and smooth.
  2. 2 Cook in the microwave until crust forms but center is still fudgy, about 35 seconds. Add 5 to 10 seconds for a drier consistency.

Chef's Notes

This recipe is enough for one 1/2 cup serving of cake (roughly) or two 1/4 cup mug cakes, doled into separate mugs after mixing; Do not use more baking soda than recommended. The cake will rise too much; You will need to soak whatever mug you use - this stuff dries on pretty tough. Setting it out overnight with water in the mug typically gets it off though.

  1. I like the recipe, but this needs to be cooked at least 1:15 for it to be cooked all the way through. Careful though, if you do the whole time at once it may over flow
  2. I've made this many times in a small round corning ware dish and it turns out great. I use a small whole egg I didn't pack the brown sugar and I cook it 45 seconds based on my microwave. It's best not to over cook it and eat it while it's still warm. The top - Read more ...
  3. This is SOOOOO good but here is a hint use self riding flour and yo will not have to use salt or baking soda because it is already in it. XD
  4. This is a great recipe!
  5. This is the 3rd coffee mug brownie I've made and I find one thing in common with all of them. Since the sugar doesn't have time to dissolve they all taste very sandy and gritty -- not something I enjoy. I will experiment on my own and maybe use different types of sweetener to come - Read more ...
  6. it tastes good... i add milk n coco powder... thanks
  7. Great! Perfect for a quick craving. Added a little almond milk less brown sugar and used Nutella instead of chocolate chips. Half the amount of brown sugar called for would be plenty!
  8. great. I only put 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.
  9. I added about 2-3 tablespoons of milk to recipe.
  10. This turned out alright but there is another recipe I like better that uses cocoa powder. I thought it had too much sugar so I didn't pack the brown sugar and it was still a bit too sweet for me. Overall it was chocolatey and chewy which is good. I microwaved for 60 seconds and - Read more ...
