Nonna’s Sweet Pasta Sauce for Two

A quick, easy, sweet-tasting pasta sauce that can be used for anything from spaghetti to lasagna. Serve right away or freeze.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ⅓ red onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 slice bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Heat olive oil in a small pot over medium heat
  2. 2 Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until onion is soft, about 5 minutes
  3. 3 Stir in water, tomato paste, sugar, bacon, salt, basil, and red pepper flakes
  4. 4 Simmer until flavors combine, about 30 minutes.
