This super yummy Oreo® frosting goes perfectly with a deep, dark chocolate cake. Makes enough to frost a 2-layer cake or 24 cupcakes.

Recipe Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup shortening
  • ⅓ (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 ½ cups confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream, or more as needed
  • 8 chocolate sandwich cookies (such as Oreo®), finely crushed

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Combine butter, shortening, and cream cheese in a bowl; beat with an electric mixer until creamy. Add vanilla extract and salt. Beat in confectioners' sugar, 1 cup at a time, until well incorporated. Add enough heavy cream to thin frosting to desired consistency. Fold in crushed cookies.

Chef's Notes

Substitute milk for heavy cream if preferred; If frosting is too soft, chill for 10 to 15 minutes before using.
