Penne in a rose sauce with bacon, deglazed with vodka. Skol!

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 ½ large yellow onions
  • 5 cloves crushed garlic
  • 10 slices bacon, diced
  • 2 cups chopped tomatoes
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 fluid ounces vodka
  • 12 ounces penne pasta

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Cook and drain the penne pasta. Set aside.
  2. 2 In a pan or skillet, sweat thinly sliced onions, crushed garlic and bacon.
  3. 3 Add diced tomato and deglaze (cook until alcohol has evaporated) with vodka. Add crushed tomatoes and cream.
  4. 4 Reduce sauce until thickened and season with salt and pepper. Add to pasta, toss and serve. Bon appetite!

  1. GREAT of my favs. I modify a little sometimes using regular spaghetti sauce instead of crushed tomatoes and a can of diced tomatoes...all the same basic idea. Usually use less onion and never skimp on the garlic. Love this meal with kielbasa sausage or shrimp. Yum!!!

  5. I LOVED this sauce and so did my family. I was looking for a rose sauce and found this. YUM!! The 1st time I made it I had everything on hand except for the vodka so I left that out and it was still excellent. I think I'll make it for dinner tonight!:o)
  6. This was one of the best vodka sauces I have ever tasted. Before I added the pasta I couldn't stop tasting it! It is great for a crowd since it can be prepared ahead of time.
