This delicious Russian garden salad is one of the most popular and traditional salads in Russia.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 10 romaine lettuce leaves, chopped
  • 4 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 large cucumber, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • ½ cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup sour cream

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Toss the romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and parsley together in a large bowl; season with salt. Drizzle the lemon juice and olive oil over the salad; stir. Add the sour cream and mix until evenly coated.

  3. I made this as part of a Russian themed dinner. Very good side to a hearty entree. I reduced the onion salt and sour cream quite a bit. It was very good.

  5. Cut the salt and sour cream as it was too much for my salad. Still seemed too salty. And the lettuce went limp. The salt sucked out the moisture.

  8. A different taste from the same old Ranch but I really enjoyed it. Next time I think I will leave out the onions and just put some on husband's salad. Served with cabbage soup "Russian Dipping Sauce " "Traditional Russian Pirozhki " "Instant Russian Tea " and "Russian Tea Cakes III."
