Recipe Ingredients

  • 12 pounds Golden Delicious apples - peeled, cored and sliced
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Place apples and vinegar into a large slow cooker, and place lid on top. Set on High, and cook for 8 hours, then turn to Low, and continue cooking 10 hours more.
  2. 2 After 18 hours, stir in white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, and allspice, and cook 4 hours more.

  2. I use 2 types of apples..and just white sugar. Cook time-start on high, get it bubbling, then turn to low, cooking over nite( with sugar), with lid cracked for vapor to escape. Done by moring. Process in hot water bath 10 min.

  5. First time I've made this recipe and it turned out perfect. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants great apple butter. It makes a lot. I ended up with 2 16oz jars, 2 12oz jars and 6 8oz jars. The only thing I changed was the type of apples I used...I used Gala apples.

  8. Used granny smith apples I used half the sugar called for and it was still very sweet. Spices were great though. I'll try again with less sugar.
