My kids wanted nachos. I didn’t have a recipe, so I created this one. It was a hit with us!

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¾ pound processed cheese, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 (12 ounce) package tortilla chips
  • 1 (16 ounce) can refried beans
  • ½ cup chopped fresh tomato
  • ⅓ cup chopped green onions

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Place ground beef in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain and mix in taco seasoning mix and water. Continue cooking 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. 2 Place processed cheese and milk in a small, microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high until melted, 1 to 2 minutes. Stir until blended and smooth.
  3. 3 Place tortilla chips on a large, microwave safe dish. Spread with refried beans. Top with beef and cheese and mixtures.
  4. 4 Microwave approximately 2 minutes on high, until the cheese has melted into the beef. Top with tomato and green onions. Serve warm.

  1. Velveeta just didn't taste right or have the texture I expect in nachos. Definitely needs "real" grated cheese to be 5 stars.
  2. These were very yummy!! one thing I would say is that the re-freid beans made them a little mushy even though I put them in the oven instead of the microwave. Also instead of processed cheese (ick) I used shreeded monterey Jack and chedder cheese mix and then melted it in the broiler. Next time - Read more ...
  3. These were delicious minus the "fake" cheese. I used shredded cheddar and baked this in the oven to ensure the crispiness of the chips. Great appetizer for a large group too. Thanks!
  4. This is just not my favorite way to have nachos. I made this recipe because of the other ingredients but processed cheese is not the way to go if you want real nachos. I came from California and out there cheese is grated not squeezed from a package. I wanted to try this combo because - Read more ...
  5. I was looking for a Nacho recipe and stumbled upon this one..I usually only try recipes with a rating, however, this looked good and easy/quick,so I gave it a try. Was definately a 5 star! I put out a side of salsa and sour cream to eat with eat -- delicious!
  6. i basically use the same stuff, but i layer the bottom of a baking pan with taco chips, then ground meat mixture then i add salsa, then i top with shredded cheese, then place in an oven untill cheese is melted. and everyone loves it. i'm always asked to make this at our campground for - Read more ...
