This is a different spin on cornbread.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten

Cooking Directions

  1. 1 Preheat and lightly grease a waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions.
  2. 2 Whisk cornmeal, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and paprika together in a bowl. Stir buttermilk, butter, and egg together in a separate bowl; stir into flour mixture until batter is just blended.
  3. 3 Ladle 1/2 to 3/4 cup batter into the preheated waffle iron; cook waffle according to manufacturers' instructions until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Repeat with remaining batter.

  1. I followed this recipe exactly and the batter was really soupy. I didn't realize before but apparently I prefer sweeter cornbread because this just didn't do it for me. With some tweaks (addition of sugar and less buttermilk) it could probably be a great recipe.
  2. I didn't add full amount of buttermilk to this. Would have been really soupy. Added gradually and it was a cup at the most. But they were very yummy.
  3. This is so good! I added some cheese and topped with honey. Also I had to add 1.5Tbsp oil to the batter to prevent sticking to the waffle iron.
  4. it was a good base for a cornbread waffle. I added 1/2 of vanilla and 5 tablespoons of sugar. perfection!

  6. This is a good basic cornbread recipe for your waffle iron. I like my cornbread sweet, so I added about 1-2 tablespoons of honey and a tablespoon of sugar.
  7. My batter was very runny and took a very long time to crisp. But over all a crunchy corn bread. Went good with my fried chicken. Just a little butter and honey
  8. Very good recipe! I made chicken and waffles tonight for dinner and I thought these waffles would go perfectly with them Boy was I right!! My only change was I separated my egg and whipped my egg white! These waffles are terrific! very very tasty!!
  9. So crispy!!! I add some sweetener (sugar honey monk fruit or just use maple syrup).
